K2000 OS upgrade (1.3-->3.18 or 3.54)

Hello,

here's my short story. I have bought a used K2000 version 1.3C (no J letter) with a HD of 540MB and 34MB Ram. Then I ordered an OS upgrade v.3.54. After installing it by myself it seems that it didn't work properly. It worked to a certain extent that is the SCSI CD-Rom started to work, I could load files, do almost anything except that I see NO original ROM sounds and no original ROM sound effects. Also I get a SETUP CHIP NOT FOUND message in the DIAGNOSE part.

Then someone told me that I nees to upgrade first to v. 3 for version ONE machine. So I did and got anouther OS (this time it was 3.18C). After installing it (4 chips not two) still everything behaves similair like 3.54. When I reinsert old 1.3 system everything works fine, and I can see EFFECTS and ROM SOUNDS.

I heard from someone also that I need to set some jumpers. So I tried, nothing. The last thing is some jumpers on the PCB board which are soldered to it, but I am afraid to touch them without proper instruction.

Can someone tell me in this great world what to do to get the v.3.18 or 3.54 running properly? But please don't tell me that I need to buy another OS, while I can do an exhibition of Kurzweil OS history this way....(and I don't intend to become a collectioner of operating systems...)

Please help me, I'm desperate,

Answers

Jacek, One of two possibilities. 1.) Either the SETUP chips are damaged, defective or not installed properly. 2.) A jumper is not properly set, though I don't believe the jumpers need to be changed unless additional ROM blocks are installed.

I HIGHLY recommend that you contact a Kurzweil service center in your area or you can call Kurzweil directly at 253-589-3200.
