Steve Hewitt, Christian Computing Y2K Expert Seminars Cleveland/NEOhio Dates

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Steve Hewitt, Editor in Chief, Christian Computing Magazine will be in the Northeast Ohio area this weekend. He will be at the Ohio Christian Educators Association meeting in Akron March 5 & 6.

He will be at the Church of the Open Door on Sunday 3/7. I don't have a time for the Church of the Open Door but will get one ASAP. Their phone number (days) is 1-440-323-4644. I would ASSUME that contacting them at this number would be prudent.

Chuck

If you are in NEOhio, you can get more details on WCRF 103.3 fm (plus or minus I have it programmed in and don't remember the exact freq.... H*@L to get old!! LOL)

Chuck, with all due respect to you, isn't this the same DGI idiot who was on the Wall St. Journal front page side-bar a few weeks ago? Why are you touting him? Has Hewitt changed his tune since the WSJ article?

-- Puddintame (dit@dot.com), March 03, 1999.

I justr read a bit of his writing on the site above and i'd not call him a DGI AT ALL!!! He may be a bit lowewr on the scale than some of us, but, well, that just means we go and keep hiom honest.

And yes, the spouse and I are NOT on the same computer. i'm at work and she is at home. NO WONDER THE PHONE WAS BUSY!!!!

Chuck, I thought his site was pretty much like his WSJ article. A quote from his site, "The point is simple. Dont be alarmed that companies are not boldly stating they will not have any computer glitches due to Y2K. Software companies have never been able to state their programs are bug free. This is why each have their own technical support department."

Your witness.

Puddin,

one wonders if he'll be wandering over to the nearest church which has done proper y2k prep, along about, oh the fifth or sixth of January...

we'll let you know. I'm going to be there. probably doing my best bird immitation (blink blink twitch head, blink blink) or lead by the spouse. If I can't see him well, I can at least listen, and maybe keep him honest.

We did a brief thread on Mr. Hewiit a few weeks back:

Hewitt vs. Hyatt re Y2K

From most reports plus my reading of his position from his comments on "Focus on the Family", Mr. Hewitt is firmly in the "bad winter storm" camp. My problem with his roadshow is that (1) he has no significant IS, engineering, or systems background at all, but is touted as a "Y2K Expert", and (2) his presentation will not motivate anyone to prepare. Like de Jager (currently), he's comfortable and non-controversial.

But I'm less exercised about him now than I was in January, as I just don't think he's really a factor now. Too much news is coming out that makes it clear that every area of our lives is at risk due to Y2K. Bad winter storms don't generate massive employment. Hewitt's scenario will simply cease to be believable as the reports come in between now and year end.

"massive UNemployment", is what I meant to type. To some extent, bad storms do generate a bit of employment. Y2K ain't no storm.

I don't know why this Christian minister doesn't GI. I am sad about his propaganda. He is not helping people to prepare. :(
