Resetting Alerts and using Returns

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Sonoma County : One Thread

The "Alert" system of this software is powerful stuff when it comes to its potential for communitywide communication. But as more people participate - as more contributions, messages, etc., appear - the number of emails that arrive can get bothersome. You can adjust the frequency at which updates are delivered to instant, daily, weekly, or twice weekly. If you want to re-set your frequency, here's how:

1. Click add an alert (on the home page or at the bottom of the screen on this forum's top level)

2. Enter your email address in "Edit alert" & press return

3. Disable your current alert

4. Add a new alert delivered at the new frequency

(Note: If your site has a mailing list for communication in addition to the alert system, you ought to add yourself to it so particularly important messages can be sent to you instantly, no matter what your your alert is set to.)

Formatting...

The software doesn't recognize single returns. It interprets them as spaces. Put two returns between things you want to appear on separate lines or your text is run together in a single text block. For instance, the short list above looks like this if it's entered as a single-spaced list:

1. Click add an alert (on the home page or at the bottom of the screen on this forum's top level) 2. Enter your email address in Edit alert & press return 3. Disable your current alert 4. Add a new alert delivered at the new frequency

The same applies when posting copies of emails (or anything else - headers, etc., get crunched).

Complete HTML formatting, linking, etc., can be done with this software, but be careful (you can't edit after posting). A lot of information and "space" for finding out about that is available by clicking "Practice" on the home page.
