Why all the military vehicles/landings?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Does anyone else find it odd that all of a sudden we have OUR OWN MARINES landing on our shores? Not to mention military vehicles and soldiers, unarmed I'm sure, IN OUR NEIHBORHOOD? (NOT near the coast and/or the publicized "terrorist threat" landings. Perhaps I'm getting overly paranoid, but with no military bases for miles it struck me as odd to see a line of army trucks and humvees in a residential neighborhood. Anyone else (outside of N.Cal/Texas) seeing this type of activity?

The government is using the old salami tactic on us. They are getting us used to seeing soldiers on the street a little at a time. They think that most people won't notice much when the hammer comes down this fall.

It is fortunate that the Founding Fathers knew that a well-armed citizenry is an excellent check on a government bent on tyranny. I also think that most American service people are true democrats and patriots who will not arbitrarily fire on their own people.

In my former (residential) neighborhood, starting the summer of 1995 or 1996 there was often a HumVee parked in one of the driveways. Really handsome SUV, painted to fit right in with ordinary civilian suburban vehicles.

Folks also had some kind of sleek-looking boat, too. (I'll bet the HumVee had no trouble pulling it back up the ramp at the end of the day.)
