Time magazine loses its disclaimer & a personal Y2K Rant (sorry)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi all

I just noticed that Time magazine has lost its disclaimer since the last issue. It no longer has anything about no liability if they cannot continue service. Hmmmm. I am not sure what that means.

I just wanted to share with you my personal observations from my trip to another dimension. No this is not a "new age journey". I had been away for about a week and had not been able to get my daily update from this forum. All I had was the mainstream television news. Aaargghhh. No mentions of Y2K. None. Then I went to my sister's house for a couple of days. They are DWGI's. It was so strange. No mentions of preps or Y2K. I mentioned that we had butchered a chicken recently and were going to purchase rabbits to raise for meat. They all looked at me as if I were from another planet. You know the look...horror, amusement, disgust, disbelief all rolled up into one face. If I had not read the Senate report I would have thought I was crazy. It is a little hard not to be a little bitter and somewhat crazed by their attitude ("If it isn't wrapped up in cellophane at the grocery store then I don't want it"--and a vague air of conceit that surrounds them.) They will probably end up on my doorstep and of course I hope they will but right now I am just feeling frustrated.

I can see how people just don't GI. If you don't have access to information other than your evening news or local newspaper you will NEVER GI. Not until it is too late. I was trying to figure out whose reality was right. It was almost enough to make me doubt, but yet I KNOW the truth.

Let me express my gratitude to the regulars here. You all help keep my feet on the ground and my focus in the right direction. Thanks. :-)

Sharon: you said "but yet I KNOW the truth."

I disagree. You have a very educated opinion of the probability of a potential crisis that could easily become life-threatening.

Nobody knows what will happen. We only know that there is an excellent probability it will be bad, and a pretty good probability that it will be terrible.

That said, I can relate to your story.

You are optimistic. I think that months before Y2K there is an excellent probability it will be terrible. Then by the time Y2K rolls over, we'll won't much care anymore. It depends upon how many family and friends die this year.

I don't think I've ever seen a called an optimist before:-)...
