Bible translation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I have various questions referring to the Bible:

1- When was it translated for the first time?

2- Who translated it?

3- From what language to what language?

4- To how many laguages has it been transalted up to now?

Thank you

ENRIQUE

Scripture was first translated from one language to another between 250 and 100 BC. It (the Old Testament) was translated from Hebrew and Aramaic to Greek. This translation was known as the Septuagint. It was translated by 72 scholars and contains all of the 46 O.T books of the currect Catholic Bible. The New testament was translated from Greek and Aramaic into Latin by St. Jerome in the late 300's. This Translation is known as the Vulgate and is the offical Bible of the Catholic Church (Old and New Testaments) I believe that the complete Bible has been translated into all the known langusges of the world.

But, not all the OT was in Hebrew - Therfore, the "protestant" Bible, which left those books out.
