I am sorry, but on behalf of millions upon millions of auto users in California and across the nation, I disagree with the idea that we should pay higher gas prices simply because people in Europe are charged much higher gas prices than we are. That is THEIR choice and THEIR tax structure. If you try to argue this before the mass of auto users, you would be booed off the stage. My opinion may be politically incorrect, but I say let the free market decide the price. This will either encourage more production at a lower price, or eventually result in a higher price because of exhaustion of natural resources. In the latter case, free enterprise may find a cost effective solution, or not (in which case prices will dramatically rise.) But the idea that our gas prices should be higher just because they are in Europe is totally fallacious, and harmful to our economy. Instead, we should be REDUCING taxes on these products, and pointing out the Government greed, which much more than corporate greed, has been responsible for the reduction in the standard of living in our country. When I was a boy, my father worked and my mother stayed home and nutured the family. He earned between $5000 & $6000 a year in the late '50's and early '60's. This was enough to support a family then. Now both a husband and wife have to work to make ends meet with the high taxes (everbody has been slowly been pushed into higher tax brackets by the government caused inflation because of debasing the currency; until 1964 our currency was backed by silver, but this proved inconvenient to politicians who wanted more of our money to spend.) I am not against conservation measures, and I advocate planning and preparation for possible y2k disruptions, but I am totally against government action to raise the gas price for millions and million of Americans just because Europeans governments choose higher prices for their citizens.

To make the gas out work, all gas purchaser`s should target the same corporation station`s in each area. Notify participants on the day before which corporation is to be avoided on gas out day. Then look for the highest price corporation stations then go down the street to an independent station if you must buy gas that day. That should get some one`s attention.
