This will get all kinds of posters upset.

The new Dow Jones STOXX index, representative of 16 European countries and the new EMU, has chosen 666 companies or stocks to include in their new index. Now what do you think are the odds of hitting that number by accident? And do you think they realize the significance of that number (sign of the Devil)? Food for thought isn't it?

This will get the "Y2K is in revelation" group going.

Y2K Updates: We just received a report from FDIC warning First Data, a company which provides data processing and credit card service to over 200 banks, thrifts and credit unions. The FEDS found that First Data was "lagging in meeting testing and implementation milestones" and that this "is the second time regulators have taken action against a service provider." Next testing date is June, 1999. They hope.

This will get the "Bank runs are coming" group.

Y2knewswire.com released a report pointing out the serious discrepancies between commonly reported numbers and auditor's reports. The FAA claimed they were over 90 percent complete, at least mission critical systems. An auditor says otherwise: only 31 percent ready. Do you think they are sandbagging a little? If this is any indication of what we can expect, Y2K will be a surprise to many and worse than believed.

Sept. 29, 1998, FAA administrator, Jane Garvey, claims FAA is 99 percent complete.

Nov. 1998, Garvey says 100 percent done back on Sept. 30.

December deadline passes without a word.

March 1999, FAA spokesperson says they will be 65 percent done March 31, 1999.

March 5, 1999, FAA inspector general says only 31 percent fixed.

To recap: The FAA went from 99 to 100 percent done... down to 65 percent done...to only 31 percent complete.

At this rate they should have nothing done and be ready to start over at zero by the year 2000. Aren't you glad you are trusting the government and big business to be ready by the year 2000?

If this kind of media manipulation and lying continues, it will only serve to delay the response and preparation time - and increase panic. It also means the markets could hang in longer than hoped and metals do worse than expected in the very short term. Consider this in your investment plans. Just don't get fooled into believing that there won't be a problem because it is delayed.

And this will get the "Gov. is lying to us" group.

LM,

666 is significant in Bible studies in that it represents mans attempt at godhead. It is not a sign of the Adversary, except as man is confused by same.

"Aren't you glad you are trusting the government and big business to be ready by the year 2000?"

Let's see... Take them out of the equation and we have... The neighbors, small business, the church, and... and... and... the people on the Internet? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

What do YOU think, suggest? Should we all just hang ourselves now, or "get ready" for the world to function without any anything? What is it everyone who subscribes to this line of reasoning is offering as an alternative to the endless, obvious drone about massive slacking, lying, blahblahblah? Not that the FAA isn't lying, or that things aren't a screwed up mess, or that everyone should "trust" big business or the government when it comes to ANYTHING. But what do you suggest as a replacement strategy that might work for 2 or 3 hundred million people? In terms of "the proof is in the pudding" department, it appears the answer is most often maximum awareness of the stupidity involved and camping gear. Or is it that nothing is the simplest, best alternative?

Pete,

Mayhap the answer lies closer to the foundation of this nation. Perhaps, what is needed is a return to the basic fundamentals of the country. Trundle back to a copy of the foundation documents (Declaration of Independence, which is a truly treasonous document, taken literally; and the Constitution, which taken literally is a very different document than the one being "enforced" by the ACLU, etc.; and the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, more treasonous writings, but a very good understanding of where this country came from).

I will guarantee that the reading will be VERY difficult, and you might want to have a copy of Bulfinches Mythology with you so you can decypher what is being said. Unless you happen to be over 45 and have the luxury of a GOOD education. these documents were written for the average literate 1760-1780 person, meaning that they were the recipients of a "liberal education" usually from a Higher Education Institution.

When you have an understanding of the concept, as opposed to the execution, you might understand.

got Literacy?

What! Nothing about the consumer bar code being the mark of the beast.

Chuck,

Thanks for the clarification. At the risk of displaying my ignorance, I'll admit I have no clue as to what the word "Mayhap" means. Short for may happen? But as to the Constitution, the founding fathers, the errant ways of modern political man, etc., I'm not sure how that relates to what to do about 2 or 3 hundred million Americans maybe having to get along without heat and water for a couple of days or weeks (?) in the winter of 2000. Somehow, when it comes to that, I don't think it would help much even if everyone in our country received an amazingly clear and retained education on those things in the next 90 to 180 days. And while straying too far from what whatever it was that was really going on in the late 1700s may be behind what we seem to be facing in y2k, that still sounds like yet another aspect of discussion of the Problem... Not that it's not valid, but what does it have to do with suggesting an alternative way for dealing with the year 2000 computer problem (an alternative to big business and government)?

That was my question. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

Don't be alarmed. Peter Jennings, Dan Rather and the others (especially Ted's CNN) will tell us exactly what we need to know in plenty of TIME (pun intended). After all, they DID tell us the truth about VN.....didn't they?
