Rice

Anything canned

MREs

Water

What else?

I'm trying to make a list of potential stuff for my customers. Stuff you can make multiple different meals with. There's a lot you can do with rice, I know..

MREs are really very constipating and you need to have alot of water if you are eating them. They are not too bad, but I definitly would not want that to be my only source of nutrition. Some other ideas include beans, canned meats, pasta, soup mixes, gravy mixes, spices, seeds, items needed for home canning,tea,coffee,kool-aid,vitamins,herbs,the list can really go on. But really alot of usful info can be found in the archives at the bottom of this page under food. You really might want to check it out. What sort of customers? Do you operate a store of some sort?

Your best survival food is Gaines Burgers. You won't eat 'em till you get really, really hungry. Perfect for those folks who keep raiding the cupboard.

Leo, herbs and spices, bouillon cubes, soy sauce, cans of tomato sauce, other flavorings, can make basic beans and rice or TVP and pasta into several types of meals--Chinese, Italian, Mexican, whatever--takes some of the boredom away.

With rice you need beans in order to get a balance to nutrition.

Say beans!

beans!

For all of you who like me have stocked up to the ceiling with the above, and also with Dinty Morore stew, also try Swanson chicken ala king. It hits the spot! Also try the chicken and biscuits if you are near an Aldis. By the way, gang, this is a first time post by a very appreciative GI who has been with you for six months. Hope to continue.

Churchorganist, glad you finally stepped up to the plate (of what I have no idea!).

It took me almost that long before my first post as well. Please don't hesitate to chime in ( bad pun #2!) from time to time. At different times we each wear the hats of teacher, student, friend, & family-member. Share your thoughts, experiences, & feelings with us.

Bingo 1: Thank you for your greeting and puns. You might say that other than chicken, I tend to stay away from liver and gizzards. They are ORGAN meats! sorry .....

I agree, you need beans & spices, or you're going to get to hate rice really fast.

As for MRE's, there's an essay about them at.

Might make you change your thoughts on how much to buy.

Leo, One of my mates in Brisbane said he was going to check out a ships provisioner and find what they had for long sea voyages.I suppose you could get the spices for roo burgers and get a spit for scrub bull if you wanted to. The bottom line is to get the hard protean and carbohydrates you'll need. Also get the vitamin/mineral supplements you might need.I also think you might want a good source of edible fats.
