Bug in Countdown Clock

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

For last Christmas my kids bought me a Millenium Clock. It sits on my desk and counts down to Y2K. Yesterday it read "267 days, x hours, x minutes, x seconds". Today it reads "1094 days, x hours, x minutes, x seconds".

Do any of you programmers know what the programming error was that caused this?

Programming error? What's that?

Probably a power interruption? What happens when you pull and replace the plug?

It's battery operated. Digital readout. Right now it says: "Time Remaining: 1094 days, 4 hrs, 54 min, 41 sec"

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. Pretty funny.

To be serious about it though, I would only expect programming trouble on multiples of 16 - 16,128,256,1024 or the related numbers of 15,127,255,1023 - as they are natural counter rollovers for low level numbers/counters. This does not seem to fit the bill - sounds more like something caused the date setting switch to close for a time last night.

Since this thing probably was not designed with top quality parts, due to it's short expected life, I thing it just broke. <:)=

Check what date it thinks it is. Do you have kids? Maybe somebody changed the date or reset it to it's beginning date.

Does this mean we've got three years to fix y2k??

I just checked mine and it says 266 days. 266 days left?!? Oh No! Where is the time going?

Not to worry.

That 1094 date matches the one that Mr. K. and the rest of the federal government is using. You're right on schedule .... with them. 8<)

Either Jack is trolling or maybe it is because today is april 9th. Julian day 99 in the year 99.
