Timecode on MiniDVCam tapes: LTC or VTC?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Editing DV Films : One Thread

I have recorded onto Sony PDVM Mini DVcam tapes. I want to make clones using a DSR-85. Can I lay SEMPTE timecode down on these tapes? I know the deck can do it, but are the tapes LTC?

Thank you to anyone who can help me.

LTC VS. VITC

I'm pretty sure it is not LTC, the timecode information is encoded on everyframe, but I'm not sure that it is in the standard VITC format (it acts like VITC). If you shot using DVCAM, you should be able to carry this timecode information over in your clone.
