Radio ad using Y2K

Listening to the Padres game on a local San Diego radio station. They've played the following lead-in for a car ad at least eight times tonight:

"Everyone's worried about Y2K. Wouldn't you rather worry about the color of your new Mustang?"

That about says it all, doesn't it?

Yes, Mac, it's surreal. There was a radio ad playing last month for a local stereo shop in my town that was weird in a different way. It actually suggested that people finance their stereo purchase in the hope that financing records would be "lost" during the Y2k rollover.

Is y2k Prairie Dog a copywriter?

That's a trip alright, because it is so ironic! Too many people worrying about their next automobile is exactly what the problem is.

Tonight I heard a radio ad for the Red Cross. They addressed the 'new millennium' and questions people have (will my family be put in harm's way... etc.). Wonderful, patriot, tear jerking, dramatic music played behind it. By the time it was over and they said "Support The Red Cross" I had tears in my eyes and it's a good thing there was no collection plate nearby or I'd have had to skip dinner. They say..... THEY'LL BE THERE.

Cool. There are 285 million people who are going to need their help. Do you think I could arrange for an assigned helper now, ahead of time? :-)

Here in the Albany N.Y. area we have WXBH 1190 running an ad with the voice of a "survivalist" serious scare intoned voice telling us about the military and "even Bill" knowing about the real threat about Y2K, while the sound track features bombs and civil defense air raid sirens going off and many gunshots heard..THEN the nice radio announcer comes on and says, "SERIOUSLY, FOLKS, we know that y2k won't really be a major problem, but you should check your presonal or business PC with xyz company...!!!
