Sen Bennett Says He Was Told Some Power Systems Wouldn't Pass Y2K Test

this here is from my story on tonight's washington dc y2k group meeting:

**In reviewing the industries studied over the past year by his Senate Year 2000 Committee, Bennett said he thought local failures were still likely, although he believed the nation's overall power grid faced minimal risk.

**"However," he added, "that will be of small comfort to you if you live in an area where power fails."

**Bennett told a story of visiting one power plant which demonstrated to him that its systems would work with the clocks set forward to 2000. Once the test was run, Bennett asked the power plant personnel, "You did that before I got here, didn't you?" According to the senator, they replied that they had: "We tried it over there, it didn't work over there. So we're showing it to you here."

the good senator did not elaborate. i thought it worth noting & passing on. the whole story is at:
