Much debate in the United States has centered around the either-or outcome scenarios of Y2K and little on the in-between. As the pieces of the puzzle begin to reveal the bigger picture, it may neither be the incomplete bridge or the bridge with just one pothole. If the in-between scenario plays out, there will be many potholes leading us into the next century and those potholes may be spread out over great distances. Preparing for that outcome is far different than preparing for a two to seven day storm or six months to a year of survivalism. The media isn't speaking to that possibility. In fact Y2K commentators are just beginning to publicly pondered what the landscape of periodic disruptions might look like. Why only now? Mainly because the press hasn't really given them much to go on.
