Virgin denies bug to blame for no-fly Millennium

VIRGIN Atlantic Airways will not put its jets in the sky over the Millennium. The airline announced yesterday that it was planning to ground its entire fleet of 24 aircraft from Dec 31 until the afternoon of January 1.

The airline, which runs services from Heathrow and Gatwick, is the first British carrier to cancel flights to North America, which experts have warned was likely to be badly affected by the Millennium bug.

However, a Virgin spokesman claimed yesterday that the decision was not connected with the Millennium bug. Instead, he said, the company had decided to give staff a holiday.

Hilarious. What about all those grounded planes on the evening of January 1?

"We decided that the staff liked the holiday so much, that we've decided to extend it a bit," Virgin said. "In fact, we may take an extended holiday. I'll let you know."

Did nobody spot this para in the article?

"The airline. . .is the first British carrier to cancel flights to North America, which experts have warned was likely to be badly affected by the Millennium bug."

Now that I read it again, I don't know if it means the airline or North America!
