4 dead in OKC Tornado

An F5 tornado moved through Moore, OK, (just south of OKC) and south/southeast OKC, near Tinker AFB. So far AP/MSNBC are reporting 4 dead, and many, many, injured. Estimates of homes completely destroyed could be upwards of 400 or more. Only daylight will reveal the enormity of the devastation.

We live just north of downtown, several miles from the devastated areas, so we are fine, but please say a prayer for all the families affected.

OG&E, the local power company, has just issued an urgent appeal for generators for rescue operations. The Red Cross has a similar call for blood donors. Tornadoes are still roaming the area as I type.

Ashton/Leska,

Good to see you back again ... and sorry that it had to be such a tragic act of Nature to bring you back. Hope things are a little better off in your part of the country.

-- Ed Yourdon (ed@yourdon.com), May 04, 1999.

I am sorry that the forces of nature have unleashed themselves on whomever, buuuuuutttttt, this is not the tornado network or am i confused??? or am i just a cold hearted ass hole??? If this were a y2k scenario you might not even be able to type!!! please tell me fellow Y2k'ers am I outa line??? tony.

-- Tony (capnfun@notfunatall.com), May 04, 1999.

I will pray for all of you as I know there are alot of people that post here from Oklahoma. The last I heard was there were 8 confirmed to be dead. This is not a weather channel true but it is breaking news and while the y2k is at a sit still sometimes we do talk about other devestations in the U.S. Shellie

-- shellie (shellie01@hotmail.com), May 04, 1999.

Yeah, Tony, my man...

It's spelt arsehole (for I am an expert),

or, if you wish, in your American parlance,

the word is "asshole" as opposed to "ass hole".

Close, but no cigar

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), May 04, 1999.

Willis, glad you are OK! Were posting about the storm on this thread:

uncle gary speaks

The thread is about history. If weeples knew of all the calamities and severe storms and devastating events of Nature throughout history ..... Prepare as if for a storm ... would have more of a motivating punch to GET PREPARED.

Tony, I don't think you're cold-hearted, but this does point out that owning a generator isn't some far-out idiocy and regardless of what happens re Y2K, being prepared can have its own rewards and also be of help to others in urgent and tragic situations.

-- Evil Roy (EvilRoy@NoSpam.com), May 04, 1999.

Tony, I'm going to have to say that was the most heartless and totally uncalled for comment I have ever seen on this forum.

I'm glad the tornado missed yall, and I hope none of our other forum members were hurt. I'll include you in my prayers. Msnbc is giving the current deaths at 13, 100's injured, and tornadoes still on the ground.

-- Nikoli Krushev (doomsday@y2000.com), May 04, 1999.

Andy, yes but believe it or not I am a compassionate ASSHOLE. And also, the thread inside this rope is not consistent, where is the weather channel forum ???. tony

-- tony (yo7@bellsouth.net), May 04, 1999.

Give it a rest tony with the small "t". If you cannot understand the corelation to Y2K from Leska's post, you're braindead.

-- INVAR (gundark@sw.net), May 04, 1999.

30 confirmed dead now and tornadoes still going. Looters already out.

-- Nikoli Krushev (doomsday@y2000.com), May 04, 1999.

tony, some of the people who post here are from the tornado area, as you see. They've become part of the Yourdon family and we want to know how they are. Besides that, those in and close to the area who have little or no damage but who will be without power, water and phone for days, perhaps weeks, will be able to stay in their homes and live relatively comfortably--likely because they were prompted by Y2K to lay in supplies. Certainly staying at home is a better option than a shelter.

THIS is why most of us are preparing--unanticipated but not improbable disasters. Y2K is merely the catalyst. We've mostly all thought about doing disaster preps but that was "some day." Y2K provided a solid, known date by which we have to have disaster supplies.

If you're just a troll, tony, please leave us be.

-- Old Git (anon@spamproblems.com), May 04, 1999.

Hi Ed, it's great to be back. What brought us back was the end of a brain cancer patient job. Within a couple hours the Forum was hopping with evening rush & breaking news and capturing our avid attention.

Oklahoma City may be better prepared to deal with large casualties because of their recent tragedy. They're not having the best of luck there -- just heard the tornadoes are still touching down and are expected to repeat tomorrow.

Storm cellars are a good idea. May need to be enlarged for Y2K storage. Reinforcement worthwhile project.

Things heating up in Emergency Response training. Next two months we've got drills, advanced workshops, and demonstrations on HazMat accidental release prevention, new risk management plans, emergency alerting, shelter-in-place, Patriot Medstar '99 Mass Casualty Exercise (with the Air National Guard), one titled "If Terrorists Strike," and more triage "mock disasters."
Something's moving TPTB, even though Y2K is still a no-no word.

I am sorry but I guess I have been tempered by the events I have gone through (no excuse).Anyone that knows me knows that I would be the 1st one there with food, med's,strong back,whatever...Sorry that I have came acrross in such a manner,my momma probably would'nt be real proud of me.I stand corrected!!!! If you in OKC need blood, food, meds etc... call me address is correct, with hat in hand ,tony, with a small "t".

> am i just a cold hearted ass hole???

That get's my vote!

Tony,

don't get me wrong,

nature is telling us something...

Check it out statistically if you wish,

Weather patterns have been screwed IMHO for the last 20 years or so, wherever I travel I speak to locals and they all say the same thing.

-- Andy (2000EOD@prodigy.net), May 04, 1999.

Willis, I was born in OKC and still have lots of friends and family there. Thank you for alerting us to the situation. You can count on my prayers!

-- Gayla Dunbar (privacy@please.com), May 04, 1999.

Tony, I believe you are really sencere in your apology...good for you in coming forth with your true colors...I think most people given the chance are really kind hearted in a time of crisis...

Pertinent weather radar. Click on blue button at top of map for approx. 5- or 6-hour loop.

For weather radar in other states, go to national radar map and click on appropriate state:

Ol Git,I am not a troll, truth be known i probably should pay rent here,I did not mean/want to get into a dispute with my neighbors, hell, crow doesn't taste good even if over an open fire and the hat appetizer is rather dry.

-- tony (yo7@bellsouth.net), May 04, 1999.

Tony,

I'm late to the ball as usual, but I want to say that you were indeed acting like an Asshole. Not an Arsehole, nor an Ass Hole.

Asshole refers directly to the type of behavior that was exhibited by yourself, before your apology. Shitty crappy rectal behavior.

Arsehole is a British term that doesn't work too well here in the States. It sounds kind of foppish (faggish) really. Not something that has the desired effect at all.

Ass Hole is a description of the actual opening in the human anatomy.

Hope this has helped you some.

Regards,

-- Mr Deedah (used2be@unkeeD.B4civility), May 04, 1999.

There speaks a true areshole/asshole :)

This is (sort of) amazing.

The USA "tanks" every year with twisters, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, deaths per capita (and you all know which thread I'm referring to).......

Ever heard of Karma? The USA owes it big time - think about it if you are so inclined...

To those departed - GopSpeed - catch you later.

On another thread - they were due to take off - catch'em later... :))

Yes Andy, the weather does appear to be getting funkier, for whatever reason...

Video on news awesome. Black & grey multiple funnels, eerie colors, incomprehensible suction.
"Devastating tornadoes too numerous to count roared across Oklahoma and Kansas, killing at least 45 people and destroying entire neighborhoods in cities and small towns alike."

Search & rescue ongoing, more storms rolling in, tornado watch still in effect. To stay semi-updated, The Oklahoman Online

Watching news of natural disasters very instructive. Keep a bug-out bag/recovery backpack by front door at all times. Sturdy shoes easily accessible are a must. Good leather gloves & warm jacket important, also blanket. Keep a necklace whistle in jacket pocket so vocal cords do not get overtaxed.

Willis,

Glad you are well! Watching the reports. Man what a mess!

As a native Californian, I'll still take an earthquake over a tornado or hurricane, any day. The last Southern California one I was in, Northridge, damaged 11,000 homes. Even so, those massive storms you're experiencing, scare the heck out of me.

Blessings, thoughts & prayers to all in your area!

Diane

(Ashton & Leska glad to see you re-surface. "E" me.)

-- Diane J. Squire (sacredspaces@yahoo.com), May 04, 1999.

Hhhmmm, dunna know. Tornadoes & hurricanes soak the damage after ripping apart shelters. Earthquakes topple most everything and cause massive fires from broken gas lines. The aftershocks keep ppl nervous wrecks.

Seems like tornadoes at least directly impact a smaller area, although last night many tornadoes for long time certainly cut a wide swath.

But would choose any natural disaster over Y2K looting & pillaging mayhem. People are still worse than Nature. With Nature there is the shock of "Acts of God" and most trying to help their neighborhoods.

With Y2K there will be rage and betrayal and revenge and opportunistic terrorism and general barbaric violence.
And then, global systemic unravelling of economy and jobs and everyday survival a difficult challenge.

We are praying fervently that the programmers are able to patch the majority of fall-short code and that Y2K will NOT have nearly the effect of any natural or unnatural disaster.

Nature hands out enough turmoil, and Idiots In Power instigate enough bloodbath infrastructure-destroying wars: Stop the destruction!

Too much nonsensickle insanity in this world. People need to actively focus on improving life & conditions. Those who do not work for good and betterment should be sent to remedial life training. Oh yeah, that's Earth.

We're getting out and NEVER COMING BACK !!!!!

The devastation in the midwest sounds terrible. Just imagine though if (when) we have a natural disaster after y2k. Currently rescue efforts and hospitals are able to handle the disaster, but if our society isn't functioning properly in y2k, the natural disasters will be even more devastating. It is great to prepare ahead of time, but in a disaster like this you need to trust in more than your preparations to save you. "no God, no peace, Know God, know peace"

Terrible scenes of devastation being shown on the BBC over in UK tonight. My thoughts & prayers are with you all.

-- Chris (griffen@globalnet.co.uk), May 04, 1999.

Ashton and Leska, I think we are all put here to learn something, and it sounds like yall have moved to the head of the class. You've already bought the ticket, might as well hang around and watch the show.

-- Nikoli Krushev (doomsday@y2000.com), May 04, 1999.

Ya know, Nikoli, we have met some evolved people we greatly admire who said 10 years ago they felt they incarnated at this time specifically to see some cracks and collapse of mass delusion. This pre general-Y2K awareness. Ashton has had visions in the 1970s+80s of masses of people quietly walking south on I-5, and more of life being greatly altered, stark circumstances.

But I'm a reluctant delinquent student who does NOT want to be convinced any more that Earth is not my home! I believe it! I'm ready to go! OUT OUT OUT OUT Let Me OUT !!!! Earth is primitive hellish kindergarten for sentient evolution and I want to graduate. I don't want to see suffering and desperation and collapse. I want a better world, the blissful spiritual ever-new kingdom, a paradise in God NOW. I'm convinced! Can't figure out why I'm on the planet anyway; it must be a mistake ;^) Not that I'm perfected by any means but there is NO desire to be here!

Wanna play hook.eeeeek from this barbaric school permanently. This ticket was a fraud racket raffle. Don't wanna see the gruesome end show! Wanna throw a protest tantrum! Sue God? Heard there's only one permanent way out, and that involves great discipline, hard work, devotion, wisdom, right living. [There's gotta be a shortcut!~ Oh yeah, that's hard work too, all of the above just condensed & intense]. Maybe there's an escape lottery? Not an option; ain't buying no more tickets! Gotta trod the hard razor's edge, yeah, keep swimmin toward the Divine shore, and suing for Mercy.

Leska, who would switch places with her patients' last breath in a heartbeat.

Leska,

As I remember, you volunteered for this assignment.

;-D

-- Diane J. Squire (sacredspaces@yahoo.com), May 05, 1999.

You remember? And you didn't stop me?!? Sheesh, some sorta friend! Next time tie me down and pummel some sense into me ole head; temper that idealistic enthusiasm with wisdom. Reminder: earth life is heavy, hard, drudge, toil, heartbreak, primitive, bogged, NO NO NO NO NO! Your memory is better than mine! I never agreed to this! And if I ever catch the snake oil salesperson who broached it as a good idea ...

Just got home from a CERT class and read there were 76 tornadoes in a 7-hour period, an F5, mile-wide, tracked ground 50 miles, 45 fatalities, 100s injured, @2000 buildings destroyed.

Also, the Cascadian Subduction Fault is showing bulge up thru the Coastal Range and up to the western Willamette Valley and is overdue for a 9+ earthquake which will shake violently for 3-7 minutes. Goodbye Oregon & Washington. Geologists think it will be the largest, most massive earthquake in recorded history :-) Oh, and then there's Y2K comin round the corner.
