Attention, Meijers shoppers

I haven't seen anyone post anything similar to what I've observed in my area, so here goes...

Meijers had an insert in my Sunday paper. When I actually viewed it today to get info on sale items, I noticed that the first part of the insert was devoted to a "stock up" sale.

All sorts of prep items for sale: bottled water, water containers, water purification, oil lamps, lamp oil, toilet paper, canned tuna, lots of Dinty Moore, blankets, camping stoves, etc.

I went to Meijers to pick up some stuff on the way home, and there was a display with most of the items listed in the paper grouped together, complete with flags with Year 200 and a brochure bin containing Y2k literature from the Red Cross.

Not too many people stopping to look, but the toilet paper, flourescent lamps and tuna seemed to be moving well.

Oh yeah, forgot to state that it was at the front of the store, hard to miss.

Anyone notice similar ads in their area?

I pick that up in the Detroit paper. Great observation on your part. Ern

I haven't been in miejers yet but I did notice that stock up ad in Sunday's paper. With it being Meijers brands on the veggies do you think it may just be clever marketing? The "sale" price on the lamps was the same I paid on sale there in Jan. The veggies seemed to be the same price you would pay for any of their weekly sales. Oh well maybe they will get an increase in sales and projected need will be increased for later in the year when the masses start a run on the stores. Maybe everyone will get what they need.

Good point about the sales increasing projected need forecasts. Hope you're right, and everyone gets what they need.

I haven't shopped much at Meijer for the lamps and most of the other preps, so I wouldn't know about the prices.

What Meijer did you go to? At the Brighton, MI store, I haven't noticed anything. I bought must of my Y2K stash from Meijer, usually in the middle of the night. No lines...

Battle Creek, MI. About 5 minutes north off I-94. I'm on the road ALOT, so I also hit the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids Meijers, depending on where I'm working for the day.

I noticed the same thing. Called my husband over to say "Look, hon, a Y2K ad!" Pretty good that they backed it up with the display.
