As a group probably best prepared in nation, however they are extremely vulnerable to Y2K in three areas:

1. Religion prevents them from defending themselves.

2. Merciless to roaming hungry masses forced from cities that will trample crops to get what they need.

3. Rely on propane more and more for heating, running milking equipment, and other needs.

Having grown up in Amish Country I feel they have much for us to learn. I repect them immensely.

As a national priority, if any troops are deployed domestically in this country by the federal government they should be deployed around the Amish communities to protect the farmers and the food supply they produce. If we go Infomagic it will be the Amish mule teams, and individual victory gardens that keep us fed and get us through!

Only one other problem... Most Amish communities lie in the shadows of some of our more esteemed Nuclear Plants such as Three Mile Island, and most recently Peach Bottom.

I have lived in Amish country for over thirty years and from my part time job last summer, as a bank teller i handled large quantities of their assets. Unfortunately they will be affected by the invisible hand of y2k too. The folks that i dealt with on a daily basis, had checking & savings accounts, the had cd's, mutual funds and ATM cards. Their cash is tied up just like us Yankee's(term the Amish use for non-Amish). They don't have to worry about the electric or not having food and water but, if someone isn't telling them to do some withdrawing they will not be able to conduct their business as usual either!
