lovely shot. How do you get that close with only a 400mm lens?

A charming shot. The bird is beautifully focused against the soft background. Well composed, but most of all it captures the bird in a moment of thought (perhaps listening). Very nice! Donna

From the scan, it looks a little like the belly and wings of the bird are overexposed a little (most Great-cresteds I see have lemon yellow bellys, rufous primaries and tail). From this and the general look and feel of the image, it looks like flash was used, and a little overexposed.Nevertheless, it's a challenge to get one close enough, even with a 400mm.
