Statements on Domestic Violence

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Does anyone know if the Catholic Church has an official position statement on Domestic Violence. I have tried referrencing recent Papal teachings but have been unlucky. If we do have one, does anyone know officially what it is or where I can find it? I have tried searching a majority of the official Catholic sites on the web and am hesitant to delve into the "hearsay" websites that exist.

Thank you for your time.

Jeffery,

I think a good place to start would be Humanae Vitae which was written by our current Pope. I do also think the Church in good moral preaching asks us not to demeen women. This unfortunatley is piad lip service by so many men due to the nature of the beast.

As a man I always believed it does matter who is on top as long as you both are having fun.

Peace And Well Being.

Paul H.V. was written by Pope Paul VI. The Social teaching of the Church is generic, and respect for human beings applies to all human beings in all situations. I believe if you take the teaching of the Chruch on social issues you could apply the principals to the domestic enviroment. Also try "On The Christian Family in the Modern World" by John Paul II. The "Gospel of Life" may also be applicable, also John Pauls "Letter to Woman" But generally Social justice.

jean: in this occasion as in others before your historical references are inexact. look back and see sometime ago i gave you a friendly advice to check your historical sources, otherwise the people posting in this forum will loose confidence in you.

I would reference an excellent talk was given by Dr. Alice Von Hildebrande at the Catholic Family Apostolate Center conference. She discussed reverencing women as the fount of life and approaching them as we approach the tabernacle. Dr. Von Hildebrande's talk was about True Feminism and really puts the pseudo-feminism preached by modernists in proper context by showing the beauty of authentic feminism.

And as far as the accusations of oppression of women by the Church, for the real sins, the Church should (and is) repenting, but this does not mean sacrificing Truth to achieve a false peace. Justice also requires us to see the Church as a LEADER in respecting women (far better track record than secular society - even Hollywood). In the 40's, 50's, and early 60's, how many public schools had women in principle's positions? How many hospital administrators positions were held by women in secular hospitals??? The Church has historically been a leader in this area, and continues to be so where Her authority allows it.

For those confused or troubled by the false accusations of the radical feminism , I recommend at tape by Mrs. Kimberly Hahn called "Women's Roles in the Church". It can be obtained from the bookstore of the Fransciscan University of Steubenville Ohio. I believe they have a web page.

JEAN:

your sins are forgiven!!! (just joking).

you are a sincere and humble person, otherwise you wouldn't accept corrections so easily. keep on with the good work!

If you truly have to "ask" about the "churches" teachings on the matter then what good is it if there are no "official" ones?

Please refer to the Bible: 1 Peter 3:7 (of course this principle applies in both directions and there are many more)

The search for Truth,
