Microsoft customers should start a class action suit, country by country and hold Billy boy responsible for continually launching bogus OS's, error ridden MS software, NT (notworking) nightmares to put an end to MS's Ponzi scheme in defrauding its customers. The FTC should also join in by slamming a cease and desist orders on all of MS's present and future attempts to sell MS software until the misleading practice to the public has stopped and only bonafide products are released. Microsoft should be split up into two companies: Company A's job would be to reimburse all of the customers that were screwed in that they were helping to finance BG's bogus 'ideas of Grandeur' going back at least five years. Cash reimbursements are easily administered by Microsoft using its own product key code (the only segment of MS's software components that really work !)

Company B must re-engineer and re-design the entire existing product palette (line) to fit the (B)bill

I'm also not willing to spend big bucks getting Microsoft-certified in network administration or whatever, only to have the certification soon become worthless. (Sometimes college also turns out to be useless, but no one ever expects you to delist your degree due to obsolescence.) Between Microsoft and those prospective employers that buy into everything Microsoft does, I'm getting mad. Why wouldn't it be possible to design Windows so that the time- sharing of processor power and peripheral resources is invisible to the applications programmer? Why does it have to be so difficult (and expensive) to write a Windows application? Is it possible that there are slicker ways to write Windows applications, but that Microsoft has reserved these for in-house programmers, with the intention that they will be able to outperform competitors? Here is a different point of view to Bill Gates "11 things they did not learn in school" speech. My responses are after the **.

Love him or hate him - he sure hits the nail on the head with this! To anyone with kids of any age, or anyone who has ever been a kid here's some advice Bill Gates recently dished out at a high school speech about 11 things they did not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good politically correct teachings created a full generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world. **Read between the lines. Who is really in charge of this whole mess. It’s not the people, it’s not government, it’s the elitist few with all the money that have created this mess and they don’t want it to change. I’ll back up my statement by responding to each of Bill’s so called rules.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it. **It seems only the rich have this attitude, for they are the ones that created the unfairness in our society and they ensure that it will stay that way by telling you to get used to it. We, the people, have let this attitude continue for to long, it’s time to make life fair for all people. Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself. **The world, meaning the rich people of the world, don’t care about your self-esteem, they only care about the bottom-line($). In the world of the rich nothing else matters, money is more important than God. Self-esteem is learned by having good examples to follow. Something we have too few of. Rule 3: You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone, until you earn both. **And who says that is what everybody wants? Most people, even people in high school, just want to live happy lives and enjoy what God has provided us. Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure. **Take that as a warning of what is to come! If you think negative thoughts you create negative results. If you don’t want to continue on with this unfair negative world, then understand this. You don’t have to. When the coach of the football team realizes his old plays are no longer winning the game, he changes the plays. He creates a new game plan. We are not winning the game of life. No one is, not even the rich! So, it’s time to change the plays and our game plan. Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity. **And being a good example to follow isn’t beneath your dignity either, but there are so few good ones! The key words here are “good examples” not “greedy examples”. How many people have you put out of business, Bill? Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them. **You are so right, it is not the parents fault. They’ve had to deal with the exact same problems and were told the exact same thing. They didn’t have any good examples to show them how not to be either. So take a good look at the way our society is set up to keep you in the same rut that your parents are in and their parents were in and so forth. It’s time to break the out of this destructive cycle. It’s time to change the way we live.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room. **Bill, you forgot a few other things that have made them what you call boring, which could also be called depressed or tired of being a slave to a society that doesn’t care. Don’t forget that buying a company and then firing most of the employees from that company helps to make them that way, as well as adding twice the amount of work to the so called lucky ones that get to stay. We have gone from a one salary per family to a two salary family society just to make it. As for the rain forest comment, if we don’t take care of the rain forests first, you Bill, along with the rest of us, will suffer because of your selfish elitist attitude. Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life. **Oh Bill, then please explain why it is that you sell software with 100’s of bugs in it. Is that not failing and you send it out anyway. Did you fire all the programmers that had a hand in creating the bugs, or do they still work for you. Oh I forgot, that has to do with the bottom-line and that makes it ok. We should change the way we live so we are all winners. Keep in mind that the “real life” Bill is referring to was created by people just like him. Recognize what he is saying here! It’s ok for me (the winner) to sell you something that isn’t 100%, and you (the loser) just have to deal with it.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time. **Here is another warning for us. What time Bill, we don’t have any time of our own (2 weeks of vacation vs 50 weeks of work a year, something is wrong here), we have to work so you can hoard billions of dollars. Oh yes, you have given some of it away, but if you wanted to you could use it all for the good of all people and be loved by all, rather than hated by many and looked up to by few. Anyone interested in changing the workweek to two days and making the weekend five days? What do you think? If you say it can’t be done, then you have no imagination. There was no Microsoft before Bill almost stole the operating system that became known as “Windows”.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs. **Understand, this is another wake up call! It’s time to wake up to the realities of the situation at hand. I read it like this: and the slave driver yells,” get back to work, your 5 minute break is up!”. So far the only thing that seems important to Bill, as far as these rules are concerned, is to get you to work. We work to much as it is. Was life really meant to be all work and no play? I say no, it was meant to be enjoyed by all. Lets make it so. Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one! **Yes, Nerds are people too, and we should be nice to them. In fact, we should be nice to everyone, shouldn’t we? We have been very nice to Bill. He’s one of the richest men in the world. Though he didn’t get there being nice to people. He just bought their companies and fired most of the employees so his bottom-line looked good. Here’s an idea! Rather than working “ for one”, as Bill states in his last sentence, we work “with everyone”, to create a life that is wonderful for all people. Bill Gates is a very shewd businessman. My understanding is this, in college he went to his programming classes, and spent the rest of his time playing cut-throat all-night poker games. I suspect that he still views life and business though the eyes of that late night poker player. Previously when he has had competition he's been able to see what they're doing and join them in business deals and follow to the letter of any agreement made. That brought his company where it is. His company, MicroSoft, (which should have belonged equally to Paul Allen who did the majority of the technical work early on) is so tied up with who Bill Gates is that they are synonomous, when he leaves MicroSoft, the company's stock will drop like so many Dot-Bombs have in the past year. Bill Gates goal for Microsoft's used to be a MicroSoft PC in every house in the US, he has (for all intents and purposes) succeeded, now what. His newest competition is not making deals with him, isn't interested in money (so much as a way to get more people using computers cheaper) and is quickly creating products that are "good enough" for a companies to use. They are doing all this at a lower total cost of ownership than microsoft can or ever will. That competition is OpenSource, and eventually it will do to microsoft what microsoft did to IBM, it will make them a (big) niche player. I'm sure that he is smart enough to have teams working on Office for Linux (along with a bunch of other products for Linux) waiting in the wings so that when the enough of the corperate world adopts linux they can still make a buck there. Microsoft might last another 5 years as they are now, maybey 10 years, but eventually they will stop growing and shrink a bit. I'm sure Bill can see the writing on the wall now and is shewdly investing money in other businesses (MS keyboards, mice, X- box, expect more where this came from). Right now the company is trying desperately to get into people's homes (buying hotmail, competing with AOL, trying to "connect" your TV and computer, listening to everything you do with XP) because they know they'll be able to be a middleman for a lot of your business that way (until you figure out you can do it cheaper elsewhere). I know that when someone asks me what kind of computer they should get for home, I tell them a Mac, they are easier to use for "normal" people and they become obsolete a little slower. For a business I would not hesitate for a second to suggest moving to Linux for lower cost ownership. Does this mean that microsoft makes bad products or that Bill Gates is a "bad" person, no. For a long time microsoft has made "good enough" products, with "good enough" marketting, at a "good enough" price to win.
