Drug Addicts -Consequences of Withdrawal ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Reading earlier threads, highlighting concerns about a possible inability to obtain prescripted drugs after the Rollover, made me wonder about all the drug addicts who may be forced to go cold turkey.

What kind of possible situation & time scale are we looking at here?

PS.The one thing I am not laying in are cigarettes.I reckon I'm going to really give them up this time !! Honest.

C, in any total breakdown, drugs are still available, never fear. Remember how the North Vietnamese got their weapons and supplies? Ho Chi Min Trail--not just trucks, thousands of suppliers on bicycles! In addition, new chemical designer drugs will be invented locally. They;ll get their raw materials somehow. Older drugs will come into vogue (like peyote), and home-brew or moonshine will be available. It's all supply and demand, just like everything else.

If meltdown ever occurs, the police will be too busy with other things, so that crops like marijuana can be cultivated more freely. On balance, if it came dopn to it, I think I'd rather have people stoned on pot than crack or speed.

pot is the #1 cash crop now, that's not going away, weed's compliant!

People worry about thieves and their supplies. The crooks will be looking for drugs and alcohol if things go down. Drugs will be worth more than cash in hand.

Trust me folks this will be the case and a scary situation. And society will not have to go down hill far for this to happen. We are pretty much there already. You just don't see it in the suburban, 9 - 5, shopping at wally world kind of life. Street life is a another matter.

And this goes WAAAAYYY back to Tom's Take. There will be squirrels and there will be wolves. The wolves don't want your TP they will want drugs, guns, and gold. The first two is already present in our culture, gold will be the obvious medium of exchange in the case of social disruption.

And to the Polly types, just minimal reflection will show that we aren't far from the above even now. Breakins are often drug related.

Good question. Inevitably serious herion, coke and meth freaks are going to have their problems and are going to be more of a negative to society than usual when "da jonesin'" kicks in.

As for the physically non-addictive herb marijuana, High Times magazine advises those that partake to store seeds for Y2K. Never has there been a better time for the individual consumer to order quality seeds for their own needs. The breeding taking place in the Netherlands, USA and Canada has been phenomenal. You can now get specific strains that can enable you to grow short plants, heavy yielders, "couch-lock" varieties and soaring cerebral types to name just a few. If things get really primitive, hemp will make a comeback for its many non-medicinal and recreational uses as well.

And to take what old git said a step further, I'd rather have to deal with people stoned on pot than crack, speed or booze.

Well written, Ratt. Gotta add alcohol to Git's list. Motor nerves take a real pounding on alcohol. Then there's the 100% compensation effect which an experienced experiencer can produce while on Cannabis indica/sativa. It's a no-brainer.

Tobacco withdrawal seemingly never ends. I know too many people who stopped using a decade or more ago & still crave a butt/dip now & again. Doesn't usually make them violent. Short-term withdrawal often includes irritability, hostility, voracious appetite, insomnia.

Here in Uk too much crime is drug related & I guess that was the reason for my question.I too am not so worried about the potheads as I am about the heroin addicts.Hadn't thought about alcohol addition.Trying to break a 20 cup a day coffee habit is bad enough !

In Uk,possession of the weed is still an offense,Zoobie.

how many people are in jail in the uk for possesion?I'm sure it's nothing like our foaming at the mouth war on vegetables over here.isn't weed more or less decriminalized if not legal in the u.k.?

For those having a tough time quitting cigarettes:

Consider accupuncture. It worked for me, and it doesn't hurt, which I found quite uncanny...those needles were LONG, LOL. They put a needle in each earlobe, wrist and base of the foot.

The facilatator then gently flicks them, and if you were a big addict like me (Camel unfiltereds), they hooked up electrodes to a couple of strategic points and then ran very low voltage current through them.

I was painless, but it was weird having your earlobes jiggle when they upped the current a tad. The session lasts for about 1/2 an hour.

It was sort of a weird experience to me, but it worked. I wasn't as irritated/crabby as I was vs. doing it cold turkey, but I did gain about 8 pounds. I think it's because the food started tasting better :-)
