Now that the season's first tropical depression is in the Atlantic. . .

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Even though TD1 is moving away from the US mainland, this is a good opportunity to reprise the information that Lowe's has a storm page. Not only can you learn the latest details of any tropical storms, you can sign up for e-mailed bulletins. Very handy.

Latest storm and tropical weather information from Lowe's Storm99 Hurricane Central -- http://www.storm99.com

Thanks for the link.

Lowe's has a good site for hurricane info but be warned, the autoemail updates will overwhelm you. Every single update and corrected update comes to you. The closer the storm the more updates. More than one storm look out! Your email box is packed!

MB,

I made that mistake once when I subscribed for weather warnings from one of the TV stations. When we had the snow last winter, I logged on to find about 30 weather alerts/warnings in my inbox. Never again, I'll just pull the site up when I want to see whats going on.

Thanks for the warning anyway.

Bob

You got it Bob. I had subscribed to the Lowe's site. We were out of town for a week and had over 200 weather alerts when we got back. What a mess! At one point there were 4 storms active at once. As you say, I'll just check into to site if I don't get what I need to know from The Weather Channel!

You're right! I had four alerts today. Anyone know of a notification site with just a tad fewer nudges?

And while we're on the subject, Intellicast, formerly my all-time favorite weather radar, has added animated advertising. You could be blown away by a tornado by the time you get the thing loaded to see what's where. Is there another good radar site? (I've checked CNN and Weather Channel but they're not nealy as good as the old Intellicast.)

Old Git,

Have you tried looking up the homepage of some of the local TV stations? A couple near me carry their local doppler radar in addition to the regional and larger views. However, if you use their automatic notification service, you may find a dozen notifications in your e-mail becaue of a multi-county fog advisory.

It seems that there isn't a happy medium...
