Quality of the lens aside, I would get the 24-120mm. I hate carrying extra lenses and changing them.

I have the 24 and 24-120. You will be surprised as how good the 24-120 can be, espat the 24 end. The longer end IMO is not that good. The 28-105 does have some advantages in price, size, filter, macro. If you don't mind changing beween your 24, I guess it can be a better buy.
I am more like Wee, lazy to change lenses. So 24-120 works better for me.

My advice to u is to go for the 24-120mm straight away. I have one and it has never let me down, the zoom range is convenient for wide angle shots and also for portrait shots. When I do not want to carry many lenses during my holidays or when outstation, I just bring this one lense and it is adequate for most of my photography needs!Jason

I recently bought Nikon N80 & got the 28-105 because it costs about US$200 less than the 24-120Speedwise, I think the 24-120 has same f/stop of 4.5 around 100mm as the 28-105, and doesn't slow down to 5.6 (whatever) until gets to 120
I asked a local dealer about swapping the 28-105 for the 24-120 and he said that in his experience the 28-105 is "better" because it costs less, uses newer technology/glass and the resolution for prints/slides is equivalent.
This was enough for me to spend my saved $200 on film processing instead of the lens
But I still wonder is it true ? The Nikon web site kind of implies the 24-120 is more professional by their comments & 2 aspherical lens, vs. only 1 asp for the 28-105

28-105 undoubtedly, It features better lens performance/quality, in nearly every test I've read.24-120 is ok if image quality is not an issue. Otherwise get the 28- 105
