How about this for starters? The Feds subpoena their mailing list and come knocking on your door. Pay cash at the counter and that won't happen.

Ummmm...isn't that what Y2K related 'computer failures' are for?? (Grin)

If you're a gun owner, chances are the Feds have your name listed someplace. If from a NRA membership, records of gun purchases, ammo purchases etc, unless the only guns you own were bought many years ago, you've given them your name before. But with all the names they have, things would get, ummm...interesting should they ever decide to come for peoples stuff.....

20 year old ammo can have serious misfires.(Do you know how to deal with that?) The primers and powder slowly degrade. Even if it seems to fire okay, if you check muzzle velocity through a speed trap, you will find 20 year old ammo to have a muzzle velocity 20 - 40% less than new ammo. I suggest you spend some extra money (about double your quote) and buy NEW Tula manufacture ammo (see www.hitach.com/shop/index.html ). As an aside, I consider my SKS to be the best bang for the buck in a serious combat rifle. (Notice I didn't say the BEST rifle - just the best value.) I put a group of 3 in a 10 inch circle at 100 yards with iron sights after not having shot it in a very long time! The hollow point Tula ammo is great.

20-year-old ammo falling of up to 40% in velocity? I don't think so. If reasonably stored, ammo, especially military ammo, will outlive you. I have fired rifle cartridges from WWI (that's the FIRST world war) through a chronograph, and the velocity was close to the average 2600 fps. No misfires in 300 rounds, either.

I've shot plenty of WWII surplus ammo, with no fails to fire. Had no chrongraph, unfortunately.

Mail order ammo is good for New Jersey residents. Our asshole state government requires you to display a NJ drivers license or NJ firearms ID card to purchase ammo. The store logs it for NJ State Police Firearms Unit review.

And we thought that Florio sucked.... "Christy" is almost as bad!
