TO ALL OIL FIELD WORKERS: PLEASE TELL US WHAT YOU KNOW

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Tell us your first hand Y2K experiences out on those systems. Are your systems Y2K compliant already? Are they being corrected? IF not do you have any idea if they'll be finished by January 1, 2000?

I would like to request that this thread be reserved for comments from only OIL FIELD WORKERS...and NO ONE ELSE. Why? The purpose here is to allow folks with first hand information to post exactly what they are seeing and what they are experiencing first-hand out in the oil fields...by that I mean, those working on oil wells whether offshore or onshore. ALSO it would include Oil Pipeline workers and folks who are drilling the oil wells. Also those of you who may be computer or embedded chip consultants working on oil field systems. So folks, this thread is dedicated to hearing from you. EVERYONE ELSE PLEASE REFRAIN from posting, so that us non-industry folks can read these comments in a continous chain. IF you feel you need to post an opinion on this thread...perhaps then we could start a separate opinion thread on this subject. For those in oil refining...I'll be posting a separate thread for you folks to respond.

IF you work in the oil fields...please tell us what your experiences are out there. Are you seeing Y2K remediation and if so, how does it seem to be going? Do you have any idea of the site(s) you're working on will be Y2K compliant? Are you working on rigs that are not going to be Y2K compliant? What kind of troubles do you foresee on Jan 1, for the systems you are working on?

Thank you for responding...it may be a big help for us all, including yourself to get an idea of a bigger picture nationally in the oil field. Perhaps too, we should state that folks working overseas in the oil fields should also feel free to comment. Again, thanks.
