Possible solution to the DC rat (4 legged ones) problem.

So let me get this straight. If Y2K is a 10 we have loss of all essential services. No Power. No heat. No food. So we get all these people getting hungry. Right?

No mix in these cat sized rats.

Know what I think? Ten days after the last emergency food distribution center gives out DC runs out of rats.

Anyone have any good Rat recipies? The meat can taste very sour.

And if the critters start a plague, people will starve before they die of it anyway. Or freeze.

If it's a 5 people will be out of work. So put a $1 bounty on rats. All the unemployed now have a way to make money. Until we run out of rats that is. (Hmmmm. If only we had enough cat sized rats, this Y2K thing would be licked!)

Good luck and keep your...

Well if nothing else you've come up with a good game plan for re- instituting an old horror. Bubonic Plague!

Don't underestimate the rats. They're not stupid, and they have demonstrated their survival skills over the last few thousand years. Include a short gestation period, and go figure.

Just to clarify: It is not rats that carry and spread bubonic plague. It is the fleas on the rats. Killing the rats actually increases the spread of plague to humans because the fleas leave the cooling corpse of their former host and seek the next most viable warmblooded host, ie humans.
