Cooter? on Santa Fe River near High Springs FL. One of the few times I've used the spot meter on the N70.

Larry, it's beautiful! This one certainly illustrates the virtue of simplicty in photography. Thanks for the precious momment of tranquility! Donna

Very well done indeed. The black space seems to perfectly complete this elegant and simle composition. Excellent!

I had an request on how this was done. The background was very dark (tannic stained water and shaded understory). The turtle shell was pretty light from sun reflection. I spot metered off the shell and this exposure blacked out the background. There was one small branch in the foreground that I couldn't get out of the frame so I "burned" it out. This was shot from a canoe (sigma 400 @ 5.6) but the tripod was sunk into the river all the way to the top with just the shaft sticking out. This is a bit risky as N70's don't swim well. I picked a location where I knew there were turtles and waited for them to climb out.
