Testing, Testing, Testing (you can not do enough)

Today was a testing day. PG&E chose to remove me from the grid for 6 hours. It was a planed outage, they are upgrading the distribution system in the block for all the new houses.

But it gave me the kick in the B... to test. Solar last time The big (3.5KW really sort of small) generator was hauled out to run the AC and Microwave. Ran real well, 2 pull on the start plenty of cable, conectors.....Opps no lite in the closet.

Need to buy more portable lanterns (battery not flame) I have several systems to recharge bats. But Note: Need connectors for the Big Fridge when Big Gen is Up.

Big Gen (Generac 3500) is REAL noisy. Seveal attempts at sound control were failures. Realization. This unit can only be used if Power is out 3-5 days, after that the noise will bring DGI's looking for a hand out.

Test Test Test, It is contingency time.

Water ran today, but it may be out.... delivery to cooking...

Think,,,Test...Think,,,,Test...

It is July....December will be two late to get parts.

I have been places where huricanes visit, everything disapears in the last 24 hours. Most are not prepared... Do not be caught unaware.

Test...Think,,,,Test....Think,,,Buy what you need, test...think.

Keep the faith

Yup. Truer words....

I run my house on the genny 1 hour/week. Found a coolant leak that way. Warranty repair. In July. Good. Water barrels, EXTRA water pump.

Spare parts. Gotta get some. Oil. Filters. Plugs. .. .. ..

Jeez, it never stops.

I know *absolutely* we will realize things we missed in the year we've been preparing. The essential bases have been covered to the best of our ability. Testing IS crucial. We've done it several times already and have learned of oversights EACH time. It also illustrates the essential need for it in Y2K remediations....too bad they've screwed the pooch there!

As long as the *critical* items: heat, shelter, water, food, protection, meds....have been covered, the rest falls into the category of 'lifestyle'. As previously suggested, TEST, take notes and TEST again! It ain't over 'til it's over!!!
