Without a tractor and pre-emergent herbicides growing wheat, rye, oats or barley will be a nightmare if the seeds are broadcast. You won't be able to keep the weeds out and harvesting will be difficult. So, you must plant the seeds a teaspoon every 2-3 ft. ...spaced like corn. Then each clump can be cultivated with a hoe and later harvested with a sickle. Yields are high! The grain can be easily threshed with a kung-fu stick and the straw saved for your new thatched roof!
