It seems that "panic" is defined as any behaivior which varys from a "normal" routine. (i.e. - work, shopping, vacations). Hoarding money does not seem to fit this "panic" definition(unless is't actually cash). Why would extra food and a self sufficient life style be abberant, but CEO's, politicians, wall street tycons, spend virtually thier entire lives seemingly obcessed with the accumulation of wealth (money). They must be very insecure people. Perhaps they are the ones that commit suicide when thier life styles crumble and stock/bank balances disappear.

They actually do want SOME people to prep, which is why they even allow some news out. They just don't want a BIG panic. Some slow rational preping is to the good, in their eyes, I think. Otherwise they would have completely clamped down on Bennett and even the REd Cross.

I'm surprised cpr won't be speaking....or will he? The descriptions following each of these categories are interesting. I don't imply any reference being made to 'individual' Y2K preparers. I suggest the 'perception of' Y2K preparers is being distorted and blown out of proportion. An attempt to "shoot the messenger" if you will. I personally 'could' be lumped into several of these descriptive catagories given....and have been. I can assure you that many others could as well. Where DO they draw the line in their 'terrorist' theories? Hmmmmmmmm For that matter, WHO draws the line?

Do you have a link for the quote that begins this thread? I have seen nothing about this remark. Actually, given our President's carefull choice of words in most curcumstances, it is hightly suspect. I notice you did not directly attribute the quote to anyone. Did you just make this quote up to get our juices flowing? Please do not take offense, I think many of your posts are spot-on. folks, I'm not normally terribly paranoid, but this does have some feeling of setting up a scapegoat in advance.

"Why did things get bad? Why,it was all of the "hoarders"".

I've never thought that we could be subject to confiscation of out little prep stashes out of government need per se. However, as a way of giving the public something/someone else to blame *besides* the government it is a natural.

Just something to think about.

There are TWO groups of people that (IMO) will be "held accountable" post-Y2K. These groups are the "hoarders" (who also own "assault rifles", not "stockpilers", who own "hunting guns"), and "programmers".

In our society today, it is a REQUIREMENT that there be a GOAT; that is, some group or individual upon which to focus the public's anger. (Saddam, Milosevic, Quaddafhi, Koresh, Starr, etc.) The public's attention MUST be diverted from the fact that it was government and business INCOMPETENCE that brought this on. Failing that, virtually EVERYONE in positions of leadership will be dragged into the street and SHOT.

I can almost hear the chants: "It's those PROGRAMMERS! It's THEIR FAULT!! KILL THEM!!!!" and "IT'S THOSE HOARDERS!!! *THEY* CAUSED IT!!! Without THEM *STEALING FOOD*, why, we'd ALL HAVE SOME!!! KILL THEM!!!!"

And so on....

And, as a member of BOTH groups, I'll probably be subjected to even greater levels of ostracism. Got guns? Ammo? You'll need it.

If they shoot the programmers, who's gonna fix all that broken code? I think it'll be the government that only told people to prepare for a 3 day storm when there was overwhelming evidence to the contrary that'll take the blame. Billy boy may have escaped inpeachment for perjury but he won't be able to weasel out of this one. Remember, the only thing that saved his butt last time was a strong economy. If Y2K is greater than a 4 he won't have that to hide behind.
