BTW, Is Your OWN PC Year 2000 Compliant?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

Thankfully, I have not been involved in Y2K remediation. How about some advice from those of you who have, especially with respect to getting our PCs TOTALLY compliant, er, "ready"?

Recommended manufacturers? BIOs upgrades? How safe is Win98, Win95, Win 3.1 (no snickering, pls)? What about Office 2000? Office 95? Virus checking apps? Internet Explorer/Netscape? Others?

Macintosh applications?

Bring your questions as well as your answers into this thread.

It would be quite weird if the cobblers (us) ended up without any shoes (our PCs) because we blew it off.

A good question. I about half expect mine (Compaq presario, bought 3- 98) with W95 and Office 97 to be an expensive paper weight next year.

Even if they work well, shouldn't we keep them off the grid until power stabilizes?

Big Dog, good advice. However, what with the more important "prep necessities" PLUS your library recommendation = Total Amount of Y2k Fundage!! Anything left over sure as heck is going toward more beans, not my stupid, %&&**%&)!%# computer.

Thank you, Big Dog, for bringing this issue to light. I plan to check into the matter at work tomorrow. (There's a lot of computer types there who I can rely on.) I'd hate to see the new year come and miss all the wonderful people that we've met on this forum. I kind of like my extended family!
