This may seem like a dumb question but I am very new to Southern Railway History:Where were the corporate headquarters located?

The corporate headquarters was located in the Southern Railway Building at 15th & K Sts, NW, Washington ,DC. Most of the railroad operations were conducted from Atlanta, GA. The latter still serves Norfolk Southern.

The old southern office is still used in Atlanta now but very limited. It is on Spring Street and can get the exact address for you if you want it. I have been and still am employed on the old Southern RR. 12-26-72 Wayne

The Southern Railway Building @ 1500 St., NW, Washington, DC has been completely renovated & is now an office bldg. The lobby has been decorated to refect its early history -- very beautiful.

We have a gentleman, who is on up in his years, here in Alexander City who retired from the Southern in 1982 if I'm not mistaken. His name is Sim Wilbanks. He was a VP for Southern during his time there and his office was in D.C. He now owns the Financial Store in Alex City. I have spoken to him once and he is a wealth of knowledge!

I came across this page via a web search for "Sim Wilbanks".

I'm saddened to report that Mr. Wilbanks passed away on April 13, 2004. He was 92, and took with him a treasure of information and wisdom, but left behind a great legacy of kindness and generosity.

There was a front-page article about his passing here: http://www.alexcityoutlook.com/articles/2004/04/13/news/news02.txt

and his obituary appeared here: http://www.alexcityoutlook.com/articles/2004/04/14/obituaries/obits01.txt

I do not know how long these links will remain active at the Alex City Outlook.
