From Rick Cowles' forum: (Anybody know what a "virtual hearing" is? Teleconference I presume?) To: "EEI Public Information List for Y2K Information" Subject: Y2K events the first week of August: Senate Hearing Changed From: "Jon Arnold" Date: Mon, 02 Aug 1999 09:45:20 -0400 The Senate Hearing on Utilities' Y2K Preparedness originally scheduled for August 4 has been changed to an Electronic - virtual hearing only. Testimony should be posted on the on website by Aug. 6th. URL is: http://www.senate.gov/~y2k/ The second quarter Electric Utility Y2k readiness assessment report is still scheduled for Tuesday August 3 at the National Press Club. Sorry about the lousy formatting.

At any rate, if you're following this issue, you might want to start checking the newswires tomorrow morning, in case there's a NERC press release distributed prior to the press conference.

Thanks, FM.

Interesting set of slides. Of special interest:

53% of power utilities are using an external contractor to audit their Y2K program; 19% are using an internal auditor to oversee their Y2K program. This suggests that 18% may be unaudited.

Contingency Planning highlights Grenwich Mean Time. I wonder how many chips are set to rollover at 12:00 midnight London time. Maybe the idea of Y2K crossing around the globe one time zone per hour needs adjusting for GMT.

Correction;

above should say that the EEI slide shows 29% of power companies are using an external auditor.

In checking, I see EEI projects a <3% Y2K failure rate.

Still a correction to my above observation, the EEI slide states 29% use an internal auditor.

In such a hurry, trying to correct one typo I inadvertenly made another. Sounds just like Y2K ;-)

So--if I have this straight--we have NERC at the Press Club on Tuesday, followed by Koskinen on Thursday. And somewhere in there--a "virtual hearing" followed by testimony to arrive on the Senate Website by Friday, August 6.

Hmmmm.....

'Sounds to me there might be a fair amount of news this week.
