Thermos cooking?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I would like to have the URL of a website that gives recipes for cooking in a thermos. Anyone?

Robert Waldrop's got tons of hints on his preparation nuggets page. I will try to do a hot link (but I haven't had my coffee yet) so here's the url: http://www.justpeace.org/nuggetsindex.htm

The Rocky Mountain Survival Group (not survivalists) have recipes and lots of other good info. Sorry, don't seem to have the URL--anyone have it?

Did you see the stainless steel thermas cooking pots advertised on the infocommersials on Sundays on the TV. Thermas cooking in a 9 inch diameter stainless steel pot. Great for Y2K.

Fox,

The best instructions I have for thermos cooking, not actual "recipes" but the basics and ideas you need - are here: http://www.kurtsaxon.com/foods06.html

Sorry, I'm hotlink challenged, but that URL takes you right to the page fast.

Here's a thought.

What about lining a small cooler with one of those mylar space blankets, bring the food to a boil, put it in the cooler, fold the space blanket over it, shut the cooler. I've never done this, but now I am tempted to try it.

i had a friend get all excited about thermos cooking with really good thermoses--then she did it a couple of times according to directions and it came out awful. she felt it didn't work.

regarding cooking with minimal heat, i have always been able to cook rices and pastas by bringing the water to a boil (i have metal farberware pans-an aluminum pan might not work as well), put the materials in for a few minutes, bring them to a boil, put on the cover, shut off the heat and let it sit. cooks everytime.
