Scanner for 4-foot negatives?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm playing around with slit-scan cameras, that give a single negative that occupies an entire 36-exp 35mm film, so the negative is about 24mm x 1330mm. Is there a scanner around that will scan the whole thing without having to chop it up first?

I could cut it into strips first, use a flat-bed with transparency adapter, and digitally cut-and-paste. The quality might be good enough, but I don't want to take a pair of scissors to the negative.

I haven't talked to a service bureau, but would it be possible to wrap it round a drum scanner?

Any ideas?
