Low water reveals cypress roots
-- Larry Korhnak (lvk@gnv.ifas.ufl.edu), August 13, 1999
Larry, I don't take black & white photography, but from my printing experience I tend to like photos with slightly more contrast, blacker blacks in particular. They usually print better. This looks a little flat. But, I love the subject. I have seen very low water exposing the very bottoms of the cypress knees, but never the root system. Did you take any isolated shots of a smaller area? This is definately of botanical interest. Regards, Donna

I really like the composition with the diagonal lines: the trunks "radiating" from a point near the upper right corner and the diagonals leading to that point from the lower left corner and upper left edge. Very well seen... But: the lower half of the image is a bit too cluttered and messy. The two root-stumps that almost merge with similarly colored background are particularly annoying/distracting. I have no idea what could be done about them, though...

I think that there are two main subjects here, the broad diagonal trunks(gorgeous in and of itself) and the stumps and they conflict a bit. Just an idea here but maybe a lower perspective to the left with wider angle lens might accentuate the stumps and make them the primary subject.
