Washington Mutual Y2K statement

Hope this hasn't been threaded already:

I received my Y2K statement from Washington Mutual which bought the bank where I have my checking account.

Aside from the happy face and stuff, the following paragraph caused pause:

"3 Keep cash and supplies on hand for New Year's weekend. While we can't make promises, we don't expect you'll have significant problems using your Washington Mutual banks accounts through all the normal ways. Any disruption in your ability to use ATM's or Visa Cash Cards will most likely be caused by temporary electrical outages that should be limited in the scope of communities affected."

Gee, no promises. And I'm sure that their definition of "significant" and mine are completely different.

Just thought I'd pass that along.

Jolly, Washington Mutual has my home loan, and so far I have not noticed wrong billings or misapplied escrow amounts. My main concern with them was that the P.O. might tank next January or February and not deliver my checks. I was rather relieved to see their branches open up in town, so I could pay in person if necessary (assuming I still have an income producing job then).

I'm waiting to see how 1999 progresses, because I don't know if W-M is still testing. Good luck with your account.
