I need to know what kind of vacuum pump to use and any alternatives (i.e. suction side of air compressor) and where i could get one.

Hi Mike. The vacuum pumps I have seen on milkers are sliding vane type units but I guess any sort of positive displacement air pump would do the trick. I don't think anything like a vacuum cleaner would be any good. First generation emission control systems on cars had a thing called an air pump that injected air into the exhaust system. I suggest you check out your local junk yard and see what you can find there, an old auto air conditioner compressor might also do the job.
