Petersburg, VA

All, I am looking for information on the SAL line in Petersburg, VA., circa 1950. I have all the books, Sanborn maps, a few SCL-era track charts and some photos, but there are holes in my research. Can you help me with SAL-era track charts and any other information on the location of industries along the main line? I'm looking for information or photos of the old station by the bridge (which was replaced by the "new" station on Dunlop Street), plus info/photos of the industries along the main which have since been torn down. Your stories are also welcome...perhaps we can put an article together for Lines South. My goal is to model the area in HO scale, but I need to fill a few gaps. Thanks in advance for your help!

Brothers, The article in the most recent edition of Lines South (2nd Quarter '01; Vol.18, No.2) has some great pre-1950s photos of the Petersburg area. I'd like to get in touch with the author, Mr. Louis Rubin, JR. and see if he has more pictures in his collection. Can anybody help and provide contact info? Thanks!!!

While growing up in the Petersburg area I was told that the "new" station you referred to on Dunlop Street was built, about 2&1/2 blocks south, in the 1200 block of Commerce Street instead of on Dunlop Street. The Commerce Street station is the main office for Kozak Beverage Co. a beer distributorship. Will let you know should I come across any data concerning what you are interested in, and an article in Lines South would be an interesting achievement.
