FEMA chief headed to Turkey

NANTUCKET, Mass., Aug. 20 (UPI) - The White House said (Friday) that President Clinton is sending James Lee Witt, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to Turkey to help out in the aftermath of the massive earthquake that tore through the country.

White House press secretary Joe Lockhart, accompanying Clinton on his vacation trip to Massachusetts, said the president's dispatch of Witt to Turkey reflects the realization that reconstruction "is the real challenge" now facing Turkey.

When the stories were being broadcast about the quaake in Turkey, I noticed that many reporters were saying that Turkey needed "meals ready to eat." The statment stood out to me, because the reporters said "meals ready to eat" so VERY CLEARLY - sorry to sound conspiritorial, but it was as if they were prompted to say these words (wink, wink, hint, hint, nod, nod).

Over 40,000 dead. Tragedy. Smell very very very awful.
