I cannot help the numger of posts. Look at this quote:

" "It was accessed by a couple of extremists who are using it to their advantage to tell people to buy guns and go to the hills," Szafran said.

-- Mike Lang (webflier@erols.com), August 21, 1999.

Gee, I wouldn't want to 'alarm' anyone, but I'd say the Clinton Administration has just drawn a line in the sand.

"cowering in churches waiting for the world to end.....determined to buy desert land and hoard gold, bullets and Skoal in their pickup trucks."

"Szafran said the Navy reports contents have been exaggerated by a "right-wing" conspiracy theorist who gained access to a Navy Web site thought to be restricted to government officials and the military."

Gee, I thought K-man said this info was in the public domain.

More .gov BS if you ask me.

Tick... Tock... <:00=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), August 21, 1999.

"One extremist, Jim Lord, posted the report on his Web page, Szafran said. The site claims, among other things, that millions of people will die in New York unless something is done and that the Navy has a secret Web site and is trying to keep the information hidden."

Jim Lord has been casted as an extremist. The game is over. The spinmachine won.

It's far from over, Chris. It's just beginning!

Has it sunk in yet folks - the gobmint are playing HARDBALL.

IT'S ALL DOWNHILL FROM HERE - WE ARE AT THE TOP OF THE SKI_JUMP SLOPE...

They are ACTIVELY allowing y2k to be EXPONENTIALLY WORSE THAN IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN IF THE SCUM_IN_CHIEF WAS DOING HIS FREAKIN'JOB INSTEAD OF GETTING BLOW-JOBS AT EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY!

Pardon my French but you know what I mean...

Jim Lord is a hero.

I blame andy for everything.

What an asshead

And yet, if you will recall (your memory can't be that short), the Administrations "Y2K Czar" didn't deny the validity of the letter.

Or mention anything about right-wing extremists for that matter.

Either you believe something's up or you don't. If I'm wrong about Y2K I can eat my mistakes.........if you're wrong, what are you going to eat?

-- Tuan Cu Mhara (Hensiarad@aol.com), August 21, 1999.

These guys are complete idiots!

By their own definition then, it was "right-wing" extremists who are responsible for raising the awareness of the entire planet of the Y2K problem. As I recall, it was not the Navy that started preaching Y2K to the world. It was people like Jim Lord, Rick Cowles, etc. "Total failure likely" is their words, not Lord's. As far as I am concerned, this administration burned up the "right-wing" crap with Monica. Remember Hillary? Its tired, old, been there- done that.

And you people are responsible for national security? Give me a break.

-- for real (for@real.com), August 21, 1999.

Andy's absolutely right. "Let the game begin". Tell me, who's reading and participating on all of our 'right-wing extremist' sites???

Who stepped up and admitted having located the document in question? Who informed the Skin-em Man? Who brought it to Lord's attention? Why, one of our very own 'right-wing extremists'.

What's next? Our 'terrorist activity'? Please tell me you all are quicker than this.

I hear alot of "not ME" mumbling out there. Yep. YOU. Are you getting Billy's good ol' boy MESSAGE here? I'll bet Lewis and Lord are. Anyone else?

Can't see a need for any left or right wings anyway.

-- R. Wright (blaklodg@hotmail.com), August 21, 1999.

I sincerely hope that the Baton Rouge Authorities were wrong in their guess as to why the Navy wasn't responded to. It would indicate a very slip-slod way of researching vital information for assessment and planning. If an E-4 was resposible for getting the info as someone thought could happen then someone needs to teach management in a very quick fashion.

-- Neil G.Lewis (pnglewis1@yahoo.com), August 21, 1999.

Well, so far you guys have missed it. The big story here is that a Naval spokesman - a U.S. Navy Captain no less - is casting political aspersions, by describing Lord as a "right-wing" extremist and by extension, everyone who's participated in the discussion about this matter as "right-wing extremists." Dare I suggest that everyone involved in the Y2K issue is not right-wing? Might Y2K concerns involve a fair number of Libertarians, Democrats, Independents and tree huggers, etc. The Navy (like all of our military) is supposed to be completely apolitical. Left-wing, right-wing, buffalo wings... Maybe this is a clue as to why the Founders were so opposed to standing armies? Captain Szafran needs to be taken down a peg or two. I think I'll write a letter to the Advocate.

Good luck Doc

-- T.H. "Doc" Toups (ttoups@aol.com), August 21, 1999.

And THIS is the REALLY important aspect of the Navy report fiasco: WHAT IT POTENTIALLY SAYS. Look, if it were August of 1997, this would not be such a big deal. To be just a hair over four months away from Jan 1 and to has such mass confusion everywhere -- the Navy, the local utilities, etc. -- is in itself the BIG issue. And why "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst" was never truer.

-- King of Spain (madrid@aol.com), August 21, 1999.

Why do you suppose that is Doc? Could it be that it has become Administration policy to classify all Y2K preparers as such? Or am I missing something here. Oh right. We're missing the word 'terrorist'. Perhaps CNN will include that one for the sheeple in an upcoming report.

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr near Monterey, California

Szafran said the Navy reports contents have been exaggerated by a "right-wing" conspiracy theorist who gained access to a Navy Web site thought to be restricted to government officials and the military.

Hang in there, Jim. We know you're no conspiracy theorist, or at least you weren't until this happened.

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage.neener.autospammers--regrets.greenspun), August 22, 1999.

"The big story here is that a Naval spokesman - a U.S. Navy Captain no less - is casting political aspersions, by describing Lord as a "right-wing" extremist and by extension, everyone who's participated in the discussion about this matter as "right-wing extremists.""

Doc you got it. That's why I said the game was over and the spinmachine won. J.Q.P. will not be cought dead branded as a "right wing extremist".

All of us here now, no matter what our political inclination, have the PLAGUE. Except the hardcore pollys.

-- Chris (%$^&^@pond.com), August 22, 1999.

That's correct Chris, because we live in a country of spineless jellyfish, being run by an evil worm. God knows, everyone HERE will roll over on their backs, legs extended and start panting!!!

Maybe we should all just shoot ourselves in the heads and save tax- payer money on the ammo for them.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), August 22, 1999.

>right wing extremist

"Naval Ornithologists announced today the discovery of the 'extremist', the only known bird with just one wing. The Navy battlecruiser "Monica" witnessed its miraculous birth from straw shaped just like a man holding a cigar."

-- cgbg jr (cgbgjr@webtv.net), August 22, 1999.

Oh, by the way, did anyone notice that the Baton Rouge utility had enough generator capacity to keep water flowing for one whole day if their system failed.

And they _bragged_ about it!

That alone is a good reason for the Navy to question their readiness, not to mention their sanity.

-- cgbg jr (cgbgjr@webtv.net), August 22, 1999.

I noticed that also, but, in all honesty, this article was so full of crud in each and every paragraph, I just didn't know where to begin. It had ME spinning. Still does. I wonder if the lack of attendence in this thread has anything to do with 'GI Sheeple Posterior Pucker'. I certainly hope not, or we'll be in bigger trouble than even I have imagined. Come to think of it, I have over-estimated the abilities of JQP for the past year. It's been the primary factor that has moved me steadily up the scale from a 5 to a full-blown 10! We've been trying to stay ahead of the wave of panic for the past 8 months. What a JOKE.

-- Will continue (farming@home.com), August 22, 1999.

Time Will Tell, soon now, and the Tables Will Turn.

We have met Jim Lord and admire his integrity. Those who know him probably will not agree with this Navy branding of one of their own most loyal.

Petty politics will lose its grip soon, don't you think? Don't sweat it.

We are just glad that today the electricity is on :-)
