Some things are self-evident. One of them is that the NYT is a mouthpiece for the Clinton White House.

No, I think it's even more basic than that, irregardless of who may be in the White House.

The NYTimes accepts a large amount of advertising from Banks, brokerage houses, and the like. Bank runs = lost ad revenue.

Board members and officers of the NYTimes also sit on the boards of organizations like the Council on Foreign Relations. (Leslie Gelb and Cyrus Vance, who was Sec of State under Carter, though I don't think he's on the Board of the Times anymore.)
