questions about government's rhetoric

greenspun.com : LUSENET : nms notes for John K. : One Thread

One of my concerns is the continual use of the term "extremist" relating to those who disbelieve (for whatever reasons) the Administration's assurances and think that it is more prudent to plan for more long-term disruptions of normal services. This has come up quite a bit recently with the on-line brawl over the Navy report.

This tactic raises red flags for me (and probably others as well). Instead of adopting an open and transparent y2k readiness disclosure policy, we are offered bland assurances and if questions are raised, "kill the messenger" is invoked and people are marginalized as "extremists."
