Ref; M17/M47 gas masks, the water conection, and Camelbacks

Surely there are a couple current SEALs, Marines, SF'ers, or Rangers out there who are using the Camelback Hydration systems. (A friend worked for a bit with a company called A-16 in CA and had a LOT of Navy/Marines coming in with their ladies and telling them about the great Camelback stuff.)

The question is HOW DO YOU (or DO YOU) attach the Camel Back to one of the mask water inlets?? The inlets are designed to attach to the converted canteen cover for drinking in the mask. Is there a specific attachment for the Camelback tubing that will attach and actuate the valve in the attachment, the way the canteen cover does? It's spring closed, on the inside and I haven't seen a way to gimick it for the tubing.

Why not just go whole hog and buy a spacesuit?

Chuck,

I would think that in involves having a "donor" canteen as a source for the check-valve from it's cap. A few pieces of various sized tubing and some plastic connectors should mate the canteen-cap valve to your water bag.

Just remember that when a canteen is used with the M17A-1 the canteen is held above your mouth and the water runs down the drinking tube. With your camelback I don't know you would get the water to flow up into the mask and into the drinking tube. Squeezing the waterbag, perhaps? Or maybe laying on your belly so you have gravity flow as your drink.
