Are my cars going to be Y2K ok / compliant

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I have tried to find out the Y2k status of my 2 cars without much luck I have a 91 Ford Thunderbird & a 97 Toyota 4 Runner. I can't seem to get a straight answer from my auto shop. Can anyone direct me to a good source of information or a service? Thanks..

I sent in the papers I got from www.y2k-cars.com to Honda on my Passport, and I am getting ready to on my Mazda truck. They gave me the correct contacts for information. Its a good way to get it in writing directly from the manufacturer just in case anything does go wrong.

As far as your Ford, mosey on over to www.ford.com and follow their Y2K link. Couldn't find one on Toyota.

You can win over $700 if you can prove that a car won't start due to a Y2k problem. I believe this challenge has been up for awhile with no takers, so maybe your're safe.

Maybe there's an automotive engineer or a mechanic who can tell us of a case where the date is used in a car AND used in a _control_ function. I haven't been able to come up with a reason why such a case would exist.

Dang it, my earlier post wouldn't link up. The automotive challenge I mentioned in my previous post is at

Well thanks for all the reply's I have chosen to go Bobby Richards idea I went to http://www.y2k-cars.com and ordered their kit I appreciate all your help out there but I have gotten a lot of I'm not sure etc. from everyone I have talked to and after reading what y2k-cars offers I think its a sound decision, sure that $750. sounds great but it won't help me sleep at night, or get me to work monday the 3rd.

Thanks Again, Bob

I view the y2k-cars scheme as kind of like buying a lottery ticket -- you win if your car has Y2k problems. Well, you don't win automatically, you have to sue. But then you get swept up in a class- action lawsuit where most of the money goes to the class-action plaintiff lawyer and the injured parties get their car fixed eventually and and a $25 coupon if you buy another car from the offending manufacturer within 2 years.

Personally, I plan to win $29.95+handling right away by not overwhelming y2k-cars with any of my business. That money would buy a few more groceries that I can eat whether Y2K is a real problem or not.

What a Fraud..I bet this whole discussion is a "setup" to advertise.

Well I would like to thank Bobby and Mikey however, what-a-fraud? I asked a simple question and got a few great answers to it, and what I consider a solution to my question, guess I shouldn't flame this thought you can't flame a group due to one bad apple, I have enjoyed this site.

Thanks again
