Do you know of any research articles, or clinical trials, or conference proceedings that measure the benefits or lack thereof, of pre op physiotherapy, or exercise, or education on outcomes in total knee replacement surgery?

I am not aware of any research protocols involving the pre-operative use of PT, exercise or education. However, regarding the first two, patients who are candidates for TKR usually cannot participate in significant exercie or PT programs because of pain and deformity. To ask them to do so, only wastes time and money. However, a pre-operative educational program results in a patient who has less fear, more understanding and a greater ability to participate in the post-operative rehabilitation.
