Understanding and Managing Y2K Liabilities

The above seminar was held on 22 July 1999 whereby Attorney-General Mr Chan Sek Keong says the Singapore Government will not legislate to limit the liability caused by Y2K-related failures as it was difficult to justify any legislation that favours one section of the public over another. He also pointed out that domestic legislation could not solve cross-border disputes involving foreign parties. Proper Y2K documentation is advised in order to ensure that duty of care has been discharged in the event of litigation. All were invited to sign up for the Millennium Accord which provided mediation as an alternative dispute resolution tool. Please right-click to view the presentation slides.

Interesting information. I used to layover in Singapore a lot. Had a run from Tokyo to Singapore. Fascinating place. Full of great British History. Stayed right across the street from Raffels and ate meals there a lot. Still run in full old school Brit tradition. The city itself is fascinating, very safe, any time of the day or night. Pleasant people, and a government that is very pro-business, and international trade. Not surprised they will deal with this on a case by case basis. The don't tolerate the sort of legal game playing our US court system seems to love so much. OJ would have been hanged there within 18 months of being charged with his crime.
