ISSUE 1568 Friday 10 September 1999 [OG note: Hogmanay is the Scots word for New Year. It's a very big holiday and the Scots usually take off the first week of the New Year. Sweetie and I were married in Edinburgh one Hogmanay.]

NHS workers win triple pay at Hogmanay By Electronic Telegraph Correspondent

NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE workers in Scotland are to get triple pay and a day off in lieu for working over the turn of the Millennium, it was announced yesterday.

The agreement with health chiefs will also see staff on call over the same period receiving triple their normal rate. And, if they are called in to work, they will also get a day off in lieu in addition to the special pay rate.

The agreement came after talks between health bosses and trade unions in Scotland - Unison, the Royal College of Nursing, the Royal College of Midwives and the British Medical Association.

Welcoming the agreement, Alan Boyter, the human resources director for North Glasgow University Hospitals NHS Trust, who represented all Scottish NHS Trusts during the negotiations, said: "We are very pleased that we have agreed on a payment system which recognises the significance of the Millennium holiday, the priority of ensuring service continuity over the period, and the commitment of NHS staff."

Hello Old Git

Married in Edinburgh! Where? St. Giles? Edinburgh is one of our favourite cities in all the world! I have been there about 5 times and I long to see it again. It is one of our dreams if Y2K permits!
