Use of media by the Pope

Is the Pope using modern media as newspapers and internet, to get more close to his followers? For example, is the Pope more like your nextdoor neighbour because of the media then just any old man in the Vatican ?

I think the new media are a remarkable means to propagate the faith. When I discovered the wealth of information about catholicism in the Net I was amazed. The fact that I can follow what is happening in Vatican, Pope4s documents etc in the net is fantastic. I think many catholics like myself, who would hardly go to a catholic bookstore once a month to see what4s new, may stay informed in an easy and inexpensive way. Three Hurras for the Internet! If the Pope were not there, it would be scandalous!

Dear eelco storm Yes, I think the pope uses whatever means to get the message to the people. No, I don't think he gets close to us that way, as we can't even e-mail him with our thoughts or feelings. The message he is trying to get to us is one of love and understanding of God and our neighbors. I do think that the message was deemed too simple by the media, so it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Try to find a mass on TV on Sunday. I can get every other religion and variance thereof, but Catholic. Is the pope becoming like my neighbor? No, I live in a predominently East Indian neighborhood and us, as Catholics, stick out like a sore thumb. If the pope had more air time on TV, we would tune in. If he wanted to live in my neighborhood, he would be welcomed, by us, anyway. I would love to hear more directly from the pope, because by the time it gets to me, it is like 100th hand, and the meaning is sometimes not so clear. Ellen

The peace of the Lord. O Eternal Father, I, a pity worm offer my self and everything that You gave me to let me adore God (Father, son, and Holy Spirit) in behalf of the whole word. I want to do only your will and never complain of any pain. I ask You that never more for my fault, any soul get lost. Let all my actions, penance and words console Your Son, for what my Savior: Jesus Christ accomplished with His death and Resurrection for the salvation of the souls. So let me be part of Jesus through the virtues and sorrow of Mother Mary and the merit of Your Holy Face, heart, crown, five wounds, carrying cross and death in the cross that you received.
